Elbow Cay Real Estate
The Abaco’s are home to beautiful sun drenched Islands, which are perfect for boating with its crystal blue waters and umpteen amount of cays to explore. The Abaco’s comprise of Great Abaco and Little Abaco and a group of smaller islands and cays that form a 120 mile-long island chain that extends over 650 square miles is located 180 miles east of Palm Beach, Florida, and 55 miles north of Nassau. Abaco’s coastline consists of bays and coves and protected harbors that include full service marinas and luxurious resorts.
Elbow Cay is situated to the East of Great Abaco Island and has a unique charm that attracts many to return year on year. Perhaps this is due to the stunning colonial architecture reminiscent of the first settlers to the island in 1785, combined with its tropical beauty and quaint island living.
Elbow Cay is 8 miles long and its main industries include fishing, boating and tourism. The Atlantic Ocean is located on the eastside of the island with the South Abaco Sound to the west. To the north you will find Man-O-War Cay, with Tilloo Cay to the south.
There are very few cars on the island, with walking, cycling and golf carts being the favored modes of transport - all of these can be hired upon arrival. The closest airport is situated in Marsh Harbour, on Great Abaco Island and from there it is a short ferry ride over to Elbow Cay.
Once there, everything is easily accessible, with a variety of restaurants and bars to choose from, 3 grocery stores and a selection of other shops to peruse. The Cay has stunning pink sand beaches with wonderful snorkeling opportunities too.
In Hope Town, which is the largest settlement on the island, you will find a stunning 120ft, candy-striped lighthouse, which was built in 1863. This is a great place to visit and is also a useful landmark to get your bearings when travelling around the island.
